Profile

Background

Originally a human with minimum magical talent, Jack worked as a mechanic at his father's shop "Shaw and Sons". As the eldest son who had any interest and talent with engineering, Jack inherited the store from his father after he died of cancer. Jack's mother, Satya, lived separately from his father in India, but visited often when she had the opportunity. Jack maintained a routine life until he met the dryad Shannalot, who immediately took interest in the human and his awkward kindness. Jack married Shannalot after a brief period of dating, before the two were captured by the cult Somnis Sol. Due to this incident, Jack and Shannalot are permanently fused, along with The Hound.

Currently, Jack lives with his praetorian twin, Cu Briste, in an isolated part of Croatoa, where he performs his studies, gardens, and teaches at the Salamanca University.

Personality

Depending on which part of the chimera you speak to, Jack's personality can leave people in almost whiplash. Being an amalgamation of three different people, Jack's personality maintains three specific aspects that cross over with each other fairly often.

Jack

Jack himself is very quiet and anxious. In life, he was diagnosed with a Generalized Anxiety Disorder that made conversation difficult for him, and led him to lead a more solitary, reclusive life. Underneath that quiet anxiety lies a heart of gold and a drive to learn. Jack himself represents the part of the trio who wants to learn, grow, and help. His determination shines especially through during times of trouble when others need his help, pushing him to drastic heights in order to reach out and protect whomever he deems as important.

Jack comes off as gruff and prickly, often falling back to the occasional insult and colorful swear to get his point across. The PPC often coined that his bed-side manner was practically "non-existent" and better fit for the morgue than the hospital. Once one gets past the gruff exterior, he is a genuinely caring and kind person... who has the mouth of an Irishman.

Jack has an insatiable appetite for learning, which after his fusion with Shannalot turned from mechanics to magic. Often times he falls into long winded explanations and rants on magical theory, only to interrupt himself when he recognizes his explanations.

While all three personalities mesh together, Jack's personality is the most prominent in the three. Due to his natural personality, Hound and Shannalot amplify his positive traits, allowing him to have the confidence to connect with others and act when necessary.

Hound

Although neither Jack or Shannnlot recognize the Hound's breed, both understand that he is indeed a good boy. Hound is friendlier than Jack and Shannalot, delighting in spending time with others and meeting new people. The Hound tends to be more jovial and indulge more in jokes and physical affection with others, much to Jack's chagrin sometimes. Often The Hound will simply assuming his own form using Jack's shapeshifting, and spend time looking for affection or exploring when he gets the chance to.

The Hound is more prominent in times when Jack's emotions are heavier on the positive, and often in social situations. He has a tendency to amplify Jack and Shannalot's protective instincts, and is often the one most comfortable with hero work.

Shannalot

The Dryad Shannalot is an ancient, mysterious existence who took interest in Jack. Her level of confidence and aggressive optimism far outshined Jack-- and was in fact what originally attracted Jack to her. As herself, Shannalot is confident, almost to reckless levels, and loves to play tricks on Jack and sometimes even his friends. Possessing an ancient library of knowledge, Shannalot harnesses an intense level of knowledge and magic that Jack still has difficulties maintaining.

Above all, Shannalot is the part of Jack that loves him the most. She encourages Jack to take care of himself and love himself, while coaxing his more confident and determined side into the light.

Shannalot is very rarely prominent among the three, only seemingly coming out whenever Jack needs her support or if there is a level of magic required that Jack can't yet harness.

Appearance

Jack's appearance can come off as rough and almost intimidating for those who do not know him. Due to the rough life he's lead since Somnis Sol, Jack has a low grade illusion constantly maintained over his skin that hides a majority of his scars and deformities.

With the illusion, Jack looks like a relatively comfortable man in his late thirties with tanner skin from his Telugu heritage, and ginger hair that's often tied back or cut short to keep out of his eyes. Jack maintains a thick beard that's often styled in either a full beard or a goattee depending on how recently he's shaved. During the spring, he's often wearing tank-tops or hoodies with his jeans, and very rarely if ever dresses up. He shows an aversion to shoes, preferring to walk around barefoot. In winter, he's noted to wear leather jackets layered with a hoodie-- often verbalizing his dislike for the cold.

Without the illusions, much of the life that Jack has lead so far becomes more apparent. His skin is covered in small scars from where he's been injured and healed using his almost immortal level regeneration. A large scar is located over his heart where he gouged out his own heart, and his right wrist and left knee show signs of having been severely broken through the skin before being surgically repaired. Due to these, Jack tends to favor his left hand and right leg, walking with a limp when he's not using his cane or reinforcement magic to protect his damaged knee.

Thanks to his chimeric nature, Jack is able to shapeshift into a more canid-hybrid form with deep ginger fur and clawed hands. The scars on his face are still prominent in his canid forms.

During the rare times he's aiding the city as a hero, Jack often wears his EMT uniform to signal his status as a medical expert, or he goes for a more casual 'hoodie covering his head' look.

When Shannalot is prominent, Jack's eyes glint with an ethearal green light.

History

Life as a Human

As a teenager, Jack was known as an anxious, quiet person. He preferred the company of animals and machines to his classmates, and ended up spending much of his time in quiet hobbies. His voice would often break or stammer whenever he was required to talk, to the point where he chose silence more than speaking up. After dropping out of college, Jack worked at his father's garage "Shaw and Sons", and ended up inheriting the garage after his father died from liver cancer. Jack's older brother had no interest in the garage, which allowed him to inherit the garage and make it his own.

During his early thirties, Jack ended up meeting a beautiful woman named Shannalot during one of his daily jogs with his dogs. He ended up helping out Shannalot, who had actually be harmed by one of the various factions located within Croatoa, before awkwardly leaving the conversation. Shannalot began to wait for Jack, hoping to spend time getting to know him and get closer, eventually leading the two to dating and getting married. Thanks to Shannalot, Jack was able to manifest a meager talent for nature magic, and started to communicate with Professor Stewart Martin, who began to rely on the information that Shannalot funneled to him through Jack.

Jack and Shannalot settled in together, but very few things last forever in this world.

Somnis Sol

During one of his daily dog walks, Jack was captured by the cult known as Somnis Sol-- a cult dedicated to controlling and exploiting parts of the fae realm for their own needs. The cult had identified Shannalot as a dryad, and an important protector in fae society, thus chose to strike at her most notable weakness: Jack.

Jack is still unable to fully recount his time with the Somnis Sol cult. He knows that Shannalot had attempted to save him, only to be captured when his life was put in danger, but the rest of the time he existed in an almost dream like state for what felt like several years.

In order to control the part of the fae realm known as Underhill, the cult had to sacrifice the heart of a powerful fae. Sensing his connection to nature magic, the cult brainwashed Jack into performing the ritual, which would include removing the heart of Shannalot and piercing it against the core of Underhill. The cult, however, underestimated Jack's determination, and during the last moments of the ritual, Jack chose to sacrifice his own heart instead of Shannalot's, hoping to provide her with the opportunity to escape. Shannalot, filled with grief and horror, attempted to sacrifice herself in order to resurrect Jack. Her attempt was twisted, as the cult-- wanting to protect the precious sacrifice-- performed a ritual to fuse Jack and Shannalot, thus preserving the dryad's heart in his body. The ritual was interrupted by the strange magic of Underhill, and Jack and Shannalot's essence escaped the fae shard to locate a suitable host: The Hound.

The Unbroken Hound

Due to the trauma of the ritual, Hound was left without any memories of his previous life, to the point where he was unaware of originally being human before awakening in Perez Forest. The Hound lived its life with the excitement only a super powered dog could possibly contain. Through his interactions with other people, The Hound steadily developed a sense of self and the ability to speak, which developed in the same stuttering patterns as Jack normally spoke in.

The Unbroken Hound was born, and began to dedicate himself to being a quiet hero of the city. He would arrive to heal and protect people, only to leave before anyone could identify him or possibly grab him for interviews. The Hound continued to grow and learn with each day, and sought to tackle greater and greater challenges each day.

Dark Astoria & Mot

Jack maintains a theory of Dark Astoria. Due to the inherent nature of Mot impressing on the world, the infinite timelines in which Mot exist all cross-over within Dark Astoria. This is why, Jack surmises, that he was able to exist in the Dark Astoria campaign when it had truly happen years before his heroic debut.

Hound entered Dark Astoria, seeking more ways to help people and protect them, but quickly found that he bit off more than he could chew. Due to his lack of memories and maturity, Hound's decisions cost the life of several people he met along the way, and with each decision a sense of dread and pain settled itself within the Hound. Hound continued to try, pushing forward with a foolish determination that only a bright-eyed hero could maintain. He was already entangled in the Mot campaign, he couldn't leave now when he felt others relied on him.

All of this brought him to face to face with Mot, where he began to succumb to Mot's influence due to his fractured memories and lack of true "self". Thanks to the vestiges of Shannalot's concious, Hound was able to break free from Mot, before helping to seal him away and escaping Dark Astoria with the people around him none-the-wiser.

Hound reached out to a local agency, seeking to lead a life as a civilian and retire from heroics due to the trauma of his encounter with Mot.

Civilian Life

Retired from heroics, Hound began to seek a new way to utilize his gifts. He entered a short program, and received his EMT license. Eventually leading him to apply to the Paragon Police Command (PPC), and assist as a support member in the Rescue Division.

Things... didn't exactly go how he wanted them to, of course. Hound unwittingly climbed the ranks of the PPC, until he was eventually designated as the head of Rescue Division. More of Jack's personality redeveloped in this environment, although in a more surly, stressed manner than before his fusion. Still, he continued his magical training thanks to the PPC's funding, and continued to provide his services however he could to guide and protect the members of the Rescue Division.

During his time with the PPC, Hound once again began to find traces of Somnis Sol in old case files that had been dredged up. Subconsciously, Jack latched onto the case files that led him to Reykjavik, Iceland, where the Shard of Underhill had moved to. This even was the catalyst that awoke all three parts of The Unbroken Hound, and made them a complete being.

After an incident with the PPC that included Jack assaulting and nearly killing the commissioner for being involved with the death of a close friend, Jack left the PPC and returned to life as a freelance mage and EMS worker. He still provides help from time to time for friends and others, but remains relatively reclusive.

Nowadays, Jack teaches at the Salamanca University after being dragged into the position by his friend, Stewart Martin. He teaches basic magical theory, runics, alchemy, and restorative magics each week.

Currently Jack has taken on an apprentice; a combat mage known as "El Luzito".

Skills

Magecraft S

Magecraft is the science of utilizing magical energy and formulae to effect change onto the word according to the user's intentions. This brand of magic often utilizes what's known as a "magical circuit", a series of pathways that exist in a mage's body to convert ambient energy into magical energy. Alongside Shannalot's heart, Jack is able to produce an almost limitless amount of magical energy. The downside being that Jack's physical body still has limitations, meaning he cannot produce more magical energy than his body can handle, or suffer physical damage.

Due to Shannalot's internal library of magical knowledge, So long as he has time to study, Jack can utilize any form of magic necessary. In combat, Jack specializes in a combination of utilizing runes and nature magic to provide support, attack, and defend.

Item Creation B

Jack is able to create various mystical tools, implements, and enchantments by utilizing a combination of magecraft and runecraft to inscribe sequences of runes onto objects. Enchantments he creates can reach the rank of mythical artifacts if given enough time and energy. Jack is also able to create a wide variety of potions quickly due to his dryad abilities.

At this rank, Jack is able to create the enchantments on objects provided, but has limited knowledge of constructing said objects himself.

Territory Creation C

Utilizing branches of his dryadic tree, Jack is able to cobble together a workshop in the forest that prevents entry from all beings that would wish him harm. By granting a portion of his tree to allies, Jack can apply this ward to their homes and workshops as well.

When in his workshop, Jack is able to utilize higher amounts of magical energy.

Dryad's Beloved A

Shannalot granted Jack her heart, giving him a second chance at life after he sacrificed himself to save her. Due to this ritual, Jack became fused with both Shannalot and The Hound resulting in the form he takes now. This skill exists in two parts: One is to provide Jack with a near limitless supply of mana due to the Dryad's Heart acting as a mana reactor, and two providing him the ability to use magic by overlapping Shannalot's impressive magical circuits over his paltry circuits.

So long as Jack maintains his fusion with Shannalot, he effectively cannot die as any damage both physical and spiritual will be healed over time. The counter to this skill is utilizing cold iron, which overcomes the fae's ability to recover.

Shapeshifting D

Jack is able to shift between human, canid, and hybrid form. When Shannalot is in control, she is able to utilize her own form as well. This shapeshift affects none of Jack's stats, but does give Jack the ability to communicate with any animal.

Riding E

Due to his history as a mechanic and driver before he became a chimera, Jack has a bonus to driving any modern vehicle. This skill is not high enough to provide him the ability to ride magical beasts.

Abilities

Absolute Avalon EX

"From the ends of the Earth to the Inner seas,
Let it be known, the story of man is filled with love.
I declare here, I will be gate and keeper.
Open the doors to the land of the undying.
Descend, and fill this tale with your blessing."

Jack's trump card, the strongest spell in his arsenal, and the proof of Jack and Shannalot's bond. Through the resonating of their souls, Jack is able to invert his inner world and the external world, creating an eternal field of pink flowers that represents Jack and Shannalot's belief of the Fae realm, Avalon.

Within this field, the concept of "death" is removed from all who enter it. All wounds are healed, and anyone who dies within the fields of Avalon will revive within a turn. The amount of magical energy required to perform this feat is astronomical, causing constant damage to Jack while he's in the field and overloading his body. Jack equates utilizing Absolute Avalon to "setting myself on fire to save someone from freezing to death".

Absolute Avalon can be released as a lesser version that only occurs in a small space around Jack for a lower mana cost. Though this version does not have the ability to remove the concept of death, it still provides a massive regeneration bonus to anyone near him.

Soul Burning A

"Keeper of spirits, devourer of ancient secrets.
Judge my vow, and count down to the moment of my end."

During his work, Jack came across a curious object. It was a lantern, one that was rusted and battered, but contained a green spark within it's cage. When activated, the Lantern burns to life and the green spark within it's cage ignites. The lantern deals constant spiritual damage as it burns Jack's soul to convert it into a huge boost to Jack's magical potential. Jack explains that if too much damage to his soul is sustained, it would affect his memories and personality, essentially burning himself to death spiritually if he overuses the Spirit Lantern.

Jack rarely uses the lantern now since the three souls learned how to work together and generate Absolute Avalon. Still, he keeps it around just in case.

The Hayabusa B

A 1999 Suzuki Hayabusa that Jack acquired during his time as a mechanic. The Hayabusa was illegally modified with a combination of magic and technology, allowing it to bypass the top speed it was capable of. A series of enchantments and spells allows the Hayabusa to travel so fast, it almost looks like lightning passing down the road. Several defensive enchantments protect the wielder when the mana engine in the vehicle is activated.

The Hayabusa itself is green and white, with leaf decals in gold trim along the sides.

Only a mage can ride the Hayabusa, as it requires magical energy to even start.
