General Information

A former king voted out for his rage, Gartholian's here in Paragon City to fulfill his father's dying wish to do good in the world. He is a Willpower/Dual Blades Tanker on Everlasting. Although he risks his life in battle against supervillains and invaders, Gartholian has found himself struggling with conversations with other heroes as he adjusts to modern society. A trusted friend of his is Kreetch, as they both joined the Hero Corps Founder's Falls supergroup around the same time. Below is a photo of Gartholian in his Hero Corps uniform.

He also dual-wields a large sword and a battle-axe. He has above-average strength and minor acrobatic ability. His belief in justice and teamwork inspires him to take hits and to strike back (Willpower).

Background

Gartholian was born the prince of Trundol, a small kingdom relatively far from Paragon City. After his father died to illness and wished for Gartholian to do good in the world, he took control and decided that to ensure the safety of Trundol, he would attack its allies, demonstrating power and prosperity. The people of Trundol slowly started to dislike him, and now he regrets taking those actions against those who had been nothing but kind to him. A branch of a supergroup known as The Falchions traveled to Trundol to investigate disappearances in the nearby forest and saw the way Gartholian was leading. They proposed an experiment, documented below by The Falchions. A letter from the citizens of Trundol is also documented below.

Excerpt from "The Transference of Trundol":

"...And although this kingdom was only visited by The Falchions of Paragon to investigate the unknown presence of Devouring Earth, we see it fit to seize control under the desire of the people before tyranny gets its hooks into the leadership. This experiment will last two years, and the control of the people will be chosen by the people's approval at the end of this period. It seems as if the King only agreed to this because he thinks that we will crumble under the pressure. We believe that this is what is best for Trundol and its neighboring countries, and we will update this document monthly to track progress along with comments from the King. - Ooid

ONE MONTH

The Trundolan people seem to be happier already, and the work being done is more efficient and quicker. We have had no attacks since control has been moved to us, contrary to the King's beliefs on offense being the best defense, I quote, "There will be no defense without power, and there will be no power without the domination of the lesser. I have no desire to take over or invade the kingdoms. I only wish to instill fear and respect into their leadership." We will continue the experiment as planned, and it seems there will be no need for defense protocols.

"They only seem to be happier and faster because they didn't like me. They'll see eventually." - Gartholian

TWO MONTHS

At least five nearby countries and kingdoms have brought peace offerings to us after they have heard about the new leadership. The King was visibly displeased when he heard this. The gold mines have begun to explode with productivity, and the loggers have just found a new way to sustainably cut trees. The blacksmiths even worked with the Artificers to make a new armor set for the Trundolan military after years of hatred between the two groups (although we suppose that the armor set will exclusively be used for forest monsters now that we have no enemies).

-Claymore

"... It's a trick! They'll backstab you eventually, wait and see." -Gartholian

THREE MONTHS

Trundol received a threat of invasion in the last month, but the experiment seems to be going so well that our allies took care of it for us. The month was generally uneventful after that, so we decided to pay a visit to a few allied countries to improve relations. We have refrained from showing Gartholian these comments, as we believe his reaction would not be positive.

- Claymore

Queen Plamesi commented, "We can't be allies if we attack each other, and under Garth's rule, that's all that happened. I hope you can teach poor Garth the error of his ways. Keep up the good work.”

King Asao VI commented, “You’ve done more for us in two months than Gartholian did in two years.”

The 20th Warlord Potent responded, “My dad seemed pretty mad every time Gartholian did something. I’ve only been leading for, like, six months, but he did threaten us pretty heavily.”

A black envelope was also received by the royal post office. It was not signed but it detailed many of a mysterious group’s complaints under the King’s rule.

The Moon Seer commented, “I never believed the shroud of clovers that the King placed above his fragile, desperate mind. Fear drives the lost crazy before starvation even reaches them.”

The Sun Warriors commented, “We do not wish to speak negatively on others, but he did not keep his many promises. That is all we will say.”

The Council of Paotems commented,

“New leadership helps

As the small fish splashes in

the pond of Monarchs...”

FOUR MONTHS

We had our first criminal trial today. The child in question had vandalized his school building. We were in shock to hear that the punishment for vandalism was death! The child, however, would not speak a work in defense. The seventh royal advisor informed us of a rule about children not speaking unless spoken to. We were discussing legislature when the school’s principal informed us that he was helping paint a mural on the side of the building. As if the previous laws weren’t enough, the trial had been set up by an automatic system using the news! We needed to regress these laws. We let the kid paint his mural, obviously. He included us in it, which was very kind of him.

- Symfaerie

“The Qualn School Building? Yes, that had a mural of me on the east wall. Where did they paint the mural of you? Oh. Alright...” - Gartholian

FIVE MONTHS

We have affected or regressed almost every aspect of the King’s rule by this month. He didn’t do much in the fifth month. We did notice him walking towards the North part of the kingdom frequently. It was strange, considering only the Artificer’s Guild house and the graveyard were over there. Maybe we should check in on him.

- Ooid

King Gartholian was not available at the time of writing.

SIX MONTHS

We are a quarter through our experiment, and everything about Trundol is better. We helped plant a community garden, we helped build a statue of all of our allied leaders in a new plaza we helped lay the stones for. Gartholian’s morale has not been doing so well. He found the collection of comments from the surrounding leaders (from three months) and is visiting the North side of town more than ever. I followed him once, and I saw him in the graveyard, sitting by one of the tombstones. He had his helmet on, but I could hear him saying something. I thought it best not to intrude.

-Ooid

SEVEN MONTHS

Gartholian has withdrawn from the experiment. He has signed all the papers and given control to us! I wonder what made him change his mind. Ooid told us about his trips to the graveyard. I flew over there and I didn’t see anything particularly cool. Graveyards are so boring. You know, I once ate a grilled cheese sandwich in a graveyard. It tasted weird. Anyways, I wonder where Gartholian is going next. Ooid seems to be pointing him towards Paragon City. They’ve been talking a lot. Oh, Ooid’s here! Ooid, tell them about your talks with the King. Wait, he’s not the King anymore, right? Oh, this is the recording tape for the experiment? Oops!”

-Symfaerie

Ooid has seen it fit to include Sym’s rant. I see no reason why. We had a ceremony to give Gartholian a pleasant send-off. There were only five people there: the second royal advisor, us three, and Queen Plamesi. Gartholian himself didn’t even attend after he saw the turn-out. I hope he’s doing well somewhere. We will continue the experiment onto nine months, after which we will govern the kingdom normally.
