In the early 11th Century, a meteorite crashed into an undisclosed location in the Middle East, granting special properties to the natural resources around it. It's legend grew, and soon numerous expeditions were launched by the Knights' Templar to search for this so called "Holy Grail". It was during the Third Crusade that Sir Thomas de Wordain, a brave, young knight known for his strict moral code and combat prowess was tasked with finding this "Gift from God" to help conquer the holy land from the "infidels".

During their quest, Thomas and his band of knights stumbled upon a village being pillaged by rogue Templar Knights, and decided to intervene. The raiding party proved too much for Wordain and his men, and Sir Thomas was mortally wounded protecting an elderly man and his grand daughter. Battered, and left for dead in the remains of the village, a giant Pharaoh Owl circled Thomas, as if leading him somewhere. Not knowing if it was a sign from god, or a mere hallucination, Thomas decided to follow the owl. By nightfall, the owl had led Thomas to a cave, which he decided to enter to protect himself from the harsh desert night.
Having used all his energy to follow the owl, Thomas closed his eyes and waited for death... until a faint voice coming from deeper inside the cave called out to him. Thomas stumbled further into the cave, falling and eventually reaching a large indoor lake. In the middle of the lake, was a large glowing owl statue, carved from the meteor that had landed almost a century ago. The voice told him to "cleanse" himself in the underground lake as a reward for his bravery against tyranny. Thomas plunged himself into the lake, where he felt the his wounds close, his bones set and his cuts vanish. When he emerged, he felt stronger, and his body felt light. He was told by the mysterious voice that he had been chosen to be the recipient of the 'Blessing':
